Trust cinema “Asghar Farhadi” fulfills his promise and makes his new film after “Hero” outside of Iran. The Oscar-winning director was previously reported to be shooting the untitled film in Los Angeles, but World of Reel sources say Farhadi has shifted the filming location to New York.
According to 30 Nema, no details about the story of the film or the actors of the project were leaked, but Farhadi had previously told Le Monde that he had no desire to make a film in Iran: “I have always said that censorship is harmful. One can find gimmicks or modes of expression to dodge, but in the long run, it dries up your creativity and closes all channels of art. Iranian artists have continued to produce for forty years, year after year, despite censorship. But last year, productions have decreased, especially film productions. I can no longer work under such conditions. I no longer want to systematically cover women’s hair in my cinema. I will no longer make films in Iran until I can release myself from this commitment.”
“Farhadi” filmed “The Past” in France and “Everybody Knows” in Spain. He has won Oscars for “A Separation” and “The Salesman”.
Farhadi won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival with the film “Hero”. That film caused him a lot of legal trouble, but he was eventually acquitted of plagiarism.
