They don’t allow us to make a film about veterans

Trust cinema Sajjad Maarif, the director of the short film “Sol”, which is in the short section of the 43rd Fajr Film Festival, told Mehr about the initial idea and theme of this film: “I have been in direct contact with veterans and their families for about 10 years. . Dealing with these people has always been my mental concern. As a result, based on my own experience, I wrote a script on the topic of the families of veterans. The film “Sol” is about the daughter of a neurotic veteran who plans to travel abroad to participate in a music festival. Her father used to work in the army band and even he taught music to his daughter. However, the father opposes her trip, not because of the music, but because of his strong attachment to his daughter. The daughter, despite her inner desire, gets a ruling from the court to leave her father for a week when she plans to travel.

He explained about the limitation of dealing with the issue of veterans in the cinema: Unfortunately, they do not allow the issue of veterans to be dealt with in the cinema. I have been writing a movie script on this for three years, but so far no one has given me permission to make it. It seems that dealing with this issue has become a forbidden matter. I even presented the film “Sol” to nearly 10 different organizations, but none of them agreed to fund its production, and their reason was that the film is bitter. This is despite the fact that the veterans, regardless of the efforts they made during the holy defense, are now living with us and we cannot ignore them. They struggle with problems every day in their lives and somehow become martyrs every day.

This director stated: The Youth Cinema Association provided us with an amount and we were able to make this film. After the completion of the production, Surah Young Film Center saw the film and welcomed it, as a result they bought the film. This film was not a commissioned work, but was made based on my own mental concern.

Pointing out that the film “Sol” does not show blackness, he said: “Sol” short film does not have blackness at all, but this film is a love story of a father and daughter who both sacrifice themselves for each other in life. However, this film was not even allowed to participate in the Tehran Short Film Festival, and I think the reason for this was the subject and content of the film.

This director said about the participation of his film in the Fajr Film Festival: Naturally, short films are less likely to be seen next to the long films of the Fajr Film Festival, but I am very happy that my film made it to the festival and some people will be able to watch it. Every filmmaker wants his film to be seen by a large number of people, and I am very happy about it. My wife was the producer of this movie and we worked hard to make it.

Ma’arif said about the broadcast of the short film “Sol”: Unfortunately, Sed and Cima cannot broadcast the film “Sol” because there is an instrument in it and TV is not allowed to play the instrument. Soureh Cinema Organization is going to take care of the distribution of this film in domestic and foreign festivals.

This director stated at the end: I like to continue making films, both long and short. We are people who may have Hezbollah’s line of thinking, but the nature of our filmmaking is social. We usually get into trouble in this, because the fundamentalist organizations and on the other hand, the reformist organizations do not support us. I would like to make social films that are based on my own mental concerns, but unfortunately, in the current situation, you either have to make box office films or dark and dark social films to be seen. I can’t work in any of these categories.
