Cinema Zahra Nora Najafi in Trust Newspaper He wrote: Cedar has always been a symbol of standing in Iranian culture, and if today we see a different event for Iranian animation cinema; The presence of Iranian short animation “Shadow Cedar” in the Oscars list of nominees is only one concept, and that is the resistance of the Iranian animation community.
Those who, though their voices worldwide, have recently been able to attract the attention of their authorities and people to this art and their resistance. Iran’s animation level in the Middle East is at the highest level of other countries in the region. The oldest animation festival in the Middle East is in Iran. Iranians have been making short animations for many years, and even we may be emerging and emerging in the field of cinema animations, but we are a pioneer and old in the Middle East.
The selection of “Shadow Cedar” directed by Shirin Sohani and Hossein Malaimi in the main list of the Oscar Short Animation Award is a happy and auspicious event not only for the animation community but for the Iranian cinema community. This indicates that animation has become one of the brightest representatives of Iranian art worldwide and continues its way even without support.
It is noteworthy that Iranian animations that add new successes and awards to the high -end list of the animation community have neither received support from the newly established animated foundation nor in the Cinema Organization or the Ministry of Culture and Guidance. In the meantime, it has provided the most support for the Children and Adolescent Intellectual Development Center, which has failed to promote its role and role in the creation of animation due to its budget deficits and lack of support.
When we talk about the self -sustaining stance of the animation community, we have been talking about year 4 that the first Iranian short animation, as “striped” (striped), was able to get in the initial list of eligible animations in the Oscars. In year 4, the film “The Last Story” directed by Ashkan Rahgar reached the initial list of eligible Oscar animations. In year 4, at the same time, three Iranian short animations, “Warm and Herd,” directed by Amiroshang Moein, “Grandfather of the Lover of the Peshawar” directed by Maryam Mohajer and the short animated “Sparrow Sing” directed by Farzaneh Omidnia, were also able to enter the first round of the Oscar competition.
Until in year 4, the dam was also broken with the short animated “musician” directed by Reza Riahi, and the animation was included in the short list of Oscar nominees alongside the film “The Hero” directed by Asghar Farhadi. In year 4, a short animation titled “Gray Gray”, directed by Seyed Mohsen Pour Mahsani Shakib, entered the Oscar’s initial list. In year 4, the short animation “Our Uniform” directed by Yeganeh Moghaddam was able to reach the short list of Oscar nominees for the second time. Therefore, it is not surprising that this continuous stance and effort of the animation community will lead to the short list of Oscar nominees.
The presence of “Shadow Cedar” among the Oscar nominees is not just a symbol of Iranian animation art, the presence of this animation represents hope for all Iranian artists who do not want to migrate to flourish their talent. In recent years, many Iranian talents have been forced to migrate due to the lack of proper working markets and supporting the growth of the animation industry. Today you can see the names of Iranian artists in the world’s most famous animation companies. On the other hand, domestic studios have to strive in two ways to survive, first of all, obtaining international orders with another identity. Because our country is a boycott and we cannot sign international contracts under the name of Iran and Iran. Second, they have to create animations that are less relied on Iranian identity to rely on foreign sales and finance the construction. While the cultural invasion continues to dubbed the numerous foreign animations, we are even deprived of the production of Iranian identity animations in our own country.
I don’t know, the authorities of the “shadow of cedar” or the previous short animation of the two young directors, “Eliminate Rustam”?! Both of these animations are not only made by two Iranian artists, but also represent Iranian culture and customs. So why don’t the authorities have a bigger opportunity for Shirin Sohani and Hussein Malaimi?!
