“Khachikian; An interview »is the title of a documentary that has been released online for some time now. The subject of this eighty -three -minute documentary as it is about is about a conversation with one of the most important directors of Iranian cinema. The filmmaker, who has always been referred to as “the creator of anxiety and anxiety” and even beyond, “Alfred Hitchcock of Iranian Cinema”.
According to ISNA, what you read below is a note that Omid Najwan -director and producer of the documentary film “Samuel Khachikian An interview »- wrote on the pretext of explaining the status of the film (in the Art Experience Group) and then its online screening.
Gone
The sound … conversation … Move!
The movie “Samuel Khachikian; A conversation “is the result of a conversation with filmmaking, which is undoubtedly one of the most important and prominent directors in Iranian cinema history. The veteran director, who accepted the author’s invitation to conduct a conversation in the summer, responded to my curiosity about his directors in directing and the secret of his persistence in Iranian cinema history.
Since the first show at the “15th Film Festival” competition, which has been screened on the Hashor site, the question has been repeatedly raised where the idea of turning the voice of the press dialogue into a documentary has come from? And what changes made to become a movie?
Questions that are likely to refer to the birth of a work of art in his creator’s mind. While in the case of this film, the initial spark came with an idea of how to bypass restrictions and obstacles, and then the film’s design came!
In a nutshell, it can be said that the effort to implement such an idea is the result of years of regret and failure to approve the plan and funding for filmmaking. I raised the years to make the film, “TV”, “Documentary and Experimental Cinema Development” and other film -related centers, and I went down empty -handed. Finally, I had to deal with films, programs, and collections to make a living, some of which did not match my taste. Programs that others have succeeded in adopt.
During this almost thirty -year -old era (which is not a little bit of life) I presented various designs and ideas to the centers. Plans that, despite the admiration and attention they received, were not able to cross the Qatar Dam. Finally, what was always recorded was the emphasis on footnotes, all of which were in one thing in common: “Not a priority!”
So when the idea of converting the contents of a cassette into images of Iranian cinema’s history sprouts in my mind, I decided to raise myself and make it my own budget and facilities instead of sitting behind the door of the managers and spending a failed waiting. To be both cool, the pain of unemployment and possibly enhances life expectancy!
My goal was to prove to them (ie the relevant managers) without the budgets provided by the likes of the likes of my servant. From this point of view, “Samuel Khachikian …”, with all its weaknesses and strengths, was for myself to spend a period of personal development or, in the sense of psychologists, mental treatment; And when the film was selected in the fall of 2008 to attend and participate in the 15th Hone Cinema, I felt an indescribable and indescribable man whose designs were always rejected by the festival organizer, but his film was finally shown in the competition section of the same institution! A happy feeling and happy success that even ignoring the film in the list of candidates and final selections could not undermine it.
Festival, feedback and editing
After attending the Film Festival, as well as the show at “Celebration of the Year of the Year” based on the feedback I received from the audience, I decided to incorporate the image of Khachikian’s live conversation in the film and be the narrator of the story myself.
This was an example of opening brackets at a few points in the film; To create a new introduction, emphasize the new and most important details, adding unseen images of Khachikian’s lively presence and play in his own films that I had found in new and subsequent research.
Now that the film was going through the final ranks and approaching the final completion, I thought to myself what better than the Art and Experience Group to communicate with the cinema enthusiasts? And … I got started. Unaware that it was even beyond my pessimistic forecasts to set up a simple appointment with the group’s time and meet him, and it took a long time from autumn to the summer of the following year! Finally, for some reason, the meeting was not made; And since the relevant manager was moved to another post, the hardship and difficulty of holding the meeting was on the shoulders of the next person.
These days when I review the past, I think to myself, maybe if this meeting was made sooner and another time was considered to be screened, it would probably be a better description and narrative of the story of the film. However, I have to be happy and thankful that on the 28th of October, it was chosen to play “Samuel Khachikian …” … the closest date to the National Day of Iranian Cinema.
Unaware that in the compactness of the annual celebration programs, the attempt to introduce and see a fully independent film was not a priority for anyone and any organization, and it can be said that the variety of programs held by government and trade unions. Programs such as unveiling books, lectures and colorful screenings of various films.
One of those days, a friend of the filmmaker who was invited to watch the movie, wrote in a message: “Fortunately, documentary films are wide … and I go to watch another movie!”
Finally, from seeing the empty hall seats that I had with great insistence, I noticed that the invitations and invitations sent to different people, along with pale and pale advertising, were not effective and effective. Of course, once I had to get myself to the film by bus and subway, I gave all those who had not come to prefer to stay at home or at work to drown in the vortex of traffic and the difficulty of in -town trips – to watch a documentary movie.
In short, forecasts for the possibility of welcoming this film were not right. The first week was published by the message of the Kimi Master for the opening of the film and its edges, but with the beginning of the second week, the political/ military events of the Middle East, and most importantly, shadowed the testimony of Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah. Five days of public mourning were announced and the cinemas were closed.
The review of the film’s review, which was originally scheduled to be held on October 9, was transferred to the 17th day of this month; And so the film, made only on the basis of empty pockets, was transferred to the archive of low -profile films at the end of the fourth week and closed the case forever!
This memorable experience was the recording of 2 tickets in 2 sessions and one sales of approximately four and a half million tomans in the Semfa system; And of course, my own blame for the sake of trusting the purely verbal promises of the relevant managers! The promises that included paying for film preparation (file production to DCP) to advertising support and so on, but unfortunately they were quickly forgotten in the absence of a written contract; And … I stayed and the screening of the half and half of a film that frame was made with love for cinema and audience.
That day I thought to myself that it might have been better to go to the film’s systems and platforms so that the audience would be able to see it more easily, but now that months have passed since the experience of showing it in Hashor, it only has a cut from Forough Farrokhzad’s poetry. Where at the end of the long poem “Green” as if he says to me, “Look … you never went … You went!”
The last station; Hashor
These days «Samuel Khachikian; A conversation »has reached the last station; Online showing on “Hashor” or as the site owners love to be known: the specialized, documentary, artistic and experimental short -term film platform.
But with a predictable way, television executives do not want to buy and display such documentaries, popular platforms prefer to present their production films and serials to the audience, and of course the duplicity and distribution of films on the DVD has been over for a long time. The way is more difficult and rocky about the documentaries that have a “special spectator” on their foreheads.
In such a tragic situation, recording the lowest visits during the three months of show is more like a end -of -dream fantasy field. Just like when you drop the dark darkness of the show and get out of the cinema in the aromatic and fragrant air … just like when you take a firm on the asphalt of the street … just like it, so bitter!
