Trust cinema – Maysam Mohammadi – Getting from violence to salvation is a strange and extraordinary combination that Yorgos Lanthimos challenges the audience with in his latest work “Kinds of Kindness”. As the name of the film suggests, we should expect a balanced atmosphere that portrays the virtues and sentimental human connections in a sweet swing, but Lanthimus, with his complex mental atmosphere and his usual playfulness in the narrative structure, still gives us a kind of artistic perspective. It is strange and original, which is undoubtedly spectacular and thought-provoking.
The appropriate thing is that Lanthimus used a kind of parody and took the audience’s expected concepts of kindness into a sweet challenge, and by the way, in another step, he was able to create a balance between violence and emotions, which is another strong point in the film. Leave it alone. Of course, the audience who expect to avoid Lanthimus’s style and style in the form of presenting stories and narratives should not go to “Kinds of Kindness”, because in sequence after sequence there are minor complexities from the point of view of narrative and of course concepts that It can even lead to giving up watching the movie.
“Kinds of Kindness” (Kinds of Kindness) in the opening episode deals with the hegemony of an inescapable tyranny over the fate of the lost human being, who is forced to submit to the predetermined path in order to continue the path. In the second episode, he portrays love from an amazing perspective and it is in this episode that he sets up the world of the story so artistically that despite the naked violence and actions that can be a reason for the audience to judge the relationship in front of him, in a special elegance and with Exemplary intelligence keeps the audience suspended in thinking and pondering the why of space, and the same routine continues in the third episode as well. The point is that in all three episodes, the way to reach the goal for the main characters is a violent act, which I will not mention the examples of, and this means the same purposefulness in returning from violence to liberation. The visual atmosphere of “Types of Kindness” with its compositions, stage design, and of course the rule of a cold color spectrum, is consistent with the theme of the film, and Lanthimus has made spectacular use of techniques and mise-en-scenes in situations where it is expected.
Apart from these cases, another strength of the movie “Kinds of Kindness” is its series of games, which, due to the episodic structure and repetition of actors in each episode, is a very difficult and, of course, opportunistic benchmark for actors such as Emma Stone, William Dafoe and of course the best actor of this movie in my opinion is Jesse Plemons who, by changing the characters and the atmosphere and the situation of the drama, has a clear distinction in using his acting tools to appear believable in a surreal and melancholic atmosphere and in a way understandably It comes right from the authorized and actual position in Lanthimus’s mind.
“Kinds of Kindness” is a good example of the challenging cinema of Lanthimus, which does not allow the audience to easily sit in a corner and watch a straightforward story with specific advice and be forgotten. Rather, it prompts thinking, laughs, confuses and consciously presents a set of contradictions in a balanced and purposeful whole and throws pieces of the complex human world into the mind of the audience and leaves them alone.
