exclusive; Memories and unseen photos of Andrei Tarkovsky in Iran

Trust cinema During the 18th “Truth Cinema” festival, director, producer and screenwriter Ali Hamraev from Uzbekistan came to Iran. He, who was a guest and judge of this international event, has a memory of the famous Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky.

He writes exclusively for “Cinema Etemadam”: “This photo is a photo of Andrey Tarkovsky, my wife Gol Bustan and me from June 1976. Tarkovsky called me from Moscow to Tashkent and said he couldn’t find a place to show his movie “Stalker” that looked like the post-Atomic zone.
I said I know such a place.

Andrey flew to Tashkent, and we drove to Tajikistan in my car, arriving in the city of Sfra, where I had already shot parts of several of my films. Seeing the ancient Chinese mining area where no grass or trees grew, Tarkovsky decided to film there. But a month later, there was an earthquake in this place and the filming was done in another place. This image is a part of my cinematic memories and a special moment.”

Ali Hamraif was a member of the panel of judges of the feature documentaries section of the 18th Iranian International Documentary Film Festival “Cinema-Ghekrit” which ended on December 25.
