Platforms are robbing cinema They sign multi-year contracts with actors to work only with their own productions

cinema trust The 6th meeting of “Cinema facing the future” organized by Soura Cinematography Organization and hosted by Amir Qadri was held on Saturday, January 1st with the presence of Abolhasan Davoudi, Akbar Nabavi and Mohammad Hamzaei at Azadi Cinema Campus.

You can read parts of Abolhasan Davoudi’s harsh criticisms in this meeting below:

• The formation of platforms in the last few years has been in the minds of all of us and we were the observers. As a filmmaker, I was hoping for this and I felt that it would help to correct the government’s restrictive view and online platforms and cinemas could complement each other. What happened was that the institution and movement that shaped and expanded the platforms had problems from the beginning. That is, instead of interacting with the people, the platforms received funds that were suspicious and ambiguous. The institutions of power, security, etc. entered these media and moved the flow to a direction where they are now not only helping cinema, but also severely are looted

* After the revolution, Iranian cinema started from scratch with the cooperation of the government and trained actors and technical staff. The platform uses these achievements like an uninvited guest for free, meaning that they now own all the actors, technical agents and equipment. For example, I paid an actor 80 million 7 years ago, and that person’s salary is now 5 billion tomans a month. This leap does not make sense by any health economics definition. In these 7 years, I still haven’t been able to make my favorite movie, and this issue is not solely dependent on capital. Now I am not ready to make any movie and if I am going to make a comedy, I would like to make my own comedy. Platforms sign multi-year contracts with actors to work only on their own productions, which do not even get their initial capital. The question is, how does this capital support itself?

* Every collapse that occurs has consequences for the surroundings. The platforms are collapsing, but its bad effects will definitely be seen in the cinema. We definitely cannot lower the rate of some actors.
