According to Khabaronline news agency, photographer and documentary maker Saifullah Samadian held a workshop titled “Photo as a Raw Material in Cinema” at this year’s Film Festival of Truth. but he did not accept it, he said: I have always loved the truth cinema and documentary cinema and we also show the selected films at the Image Film Festival, but I came for this reason because I think that with all The bitterness that we have seen in this era has created a cultural hope that should not be ignored.
According to ISNA, he explained about the title of his workshop, pointing out that it might be a bit “misleading”: We are not going to discuss how to use the raw photo in the documentary. “Photo as a raw material in cinema” means to first see the world as a photo and in the form of a photo, then turn it into a film. In the image magazine, instead of “it was at the beginning of the word”, I wrote “it was at the beginning of the picture”; Just as we have no connection with the primitive man who did not yet understand script and language, except for pictures and mental images. Early man painted in caves to depict his feelings and experiences.
Samadian continued: In order to be a cinema, cinema must be inspired by its father, who is a photographer. The origin of cinema is from photography. A person who is not a good photographer should not make a film because cinema is a combination of photography, painting, poetry and literature. Of course, the basis of the image and its impact should be understood while many people look and only a few people “see”. We should learn to see instead of looking and not get caught up in everyday life in looking.
He continued: In photography, we strive to reach a “definite moment”, which is the moment of all visual arts. A photograph that reaches a definite moment or is produced at a definite moment becomes permanent.
Describing this moment, Samadian said: In general, the brain represents thinking in humans, and the heart forms our emotional region. The eye also represents the composition, the shape and image and the transmission of the seen, and whenever the eye, the brain, and the heart perceive a common feeling at the same time, and in simpler and more popular terms, all three together at the same time, That moment is the “decisive moment”.
He continued by asking the attendees to tell why they participated in this workshop and talked with them and pointed out that everyone changes the color and shape of their face with various masks throughout their day.
He stated that “the rule of money in the world has caused the reins of mankind to be in the hands of money and everyone is away from their original identity” and said: “Now the main thing missing in our society is our true self and in fact our identity.” It is a tragedy that we live in a society where everyone plays movies
Samadian showed some seemingly simple photos like light passing through the seams of a shutter behind a window on plant leaves in a vase and said: We photographers and documentary makers are the eyewitnesses of this era. If you become one with the subject, understand its feeling and have the catch and the hunter together, you can get the right result from photography, which is the main and primary point of the film. Of course, while we are an objective witness, we should also pay attention to the fact that we should not become politicized, because politicization is seen a lot especially in the field of our culture today.
In explaining this point, he showed a photo of two women who were moving towards each other on the sidewalk. In this photo, apart from the colorful and attractive designs on the wall of the sidewalk, one of the women is wearing a chador and the other is more loosely dressed. had created
Samadian, who has a collection of various photos of many cultural and artistic figures, showed some photos of Ahmad Shamlou and said: “Sometimes I went to his house to photograph him, but after he lost his leg due to the complications of diabetes, it was a conscious and emotional mistake.” I stopped being a photographer next to him.
Samadian added: This was not the right thing to do professionally, but I didn’t want him to be moved for taking my photo, but I have photos of him that remind me of Ahmad Shamlou with the least elements, including a hand and a cigarette on his finger.
The final part of this workshop was the screening of several short films by Samadian, one of which was shot by Masoud Kimiaei and Abbas Kiarostami on a rainy day when Abbas Agha was recording a frame of the soldiers’ parade behind the camera lens for the title of the film “Soldiers of Friday”.
