The Palermo Refugee Jury Award was presented to “Anita, Missing in the News”.



According to the news agency Online news; The 19th Sole Luna Doc Documentary Film Festival was held from July 11 to 17 (July 1 to 7) in Palermo, Sicily, and the documentary-animated short film “Anita, Lost in the News” by Behzad Nalbandi won the Special Prize of the Refugee Jury. took This delegation consisted of a number of refugees from different countries.

The jury’s statement when awarding the award is as follows: For coherence between text and image, for excellent editing, for strong emotional impact, “Anita, Missing in the News” brings a message that deeply touches all of our hearts.

Gabriela D’Agostino, the scientific director of the festival, has dedicated this course to “Gaza, children who will have no future”. Mrs. D’Agostino, in addition to the main jury and the student jury, also formed a new jury composed of refugees living in Palermo to judge the films.

This 17-minute film is the new work of Behzad Nalbandi, whose previous work titled “Torn Papers” was present in world and Iranian film festivals and won awards.

“Anita, Missing in the News” has previously participated in the 43rd Istanbul Festival in Turkey, Jilava in the Czech Republic, Tokyo Anime in Japan, Houston in the United States, and the 28th Catalonia Animation Film Festival; Attended Animac, Birmingham, England and participated in the Indian Animation Festival. This film won the best animated film award at the Kiloland Festival in America and has been nominated for the 2025 Oscar.

The synopsis of the film says: “On November 5, 2019, an inflatable boat leaves the coast of Dunkirk, France, to bring 19 illegal immigrants to England, but it capsizes after a few minutes. Seven immigrants drown in the English Channel, five of them were a Kurdish-Iranian family called Irannejad, who went on this difficult journey in the hope of a better life, and this film is about that family.
