Year 4 can be the year of economic improvement of documentary cinema/ Expectation of high sales from the documentary

In an interview with IRNA, Saeed Elahi, a cinema producer and lecturer, said about the status of documentary cinema: Documentary cinema in Iran requires future design and planning in the economic and financial sectors. While storytelling cinema with government support, box office sales or copyright at the right price on platforms is able to return its capital, and unfortunately our documentaries are deprived of these natural facilities and privileges.

“Although the center has a regulation, supervision and support mission, it also has a strategic policy, macro policymaking and planning to create better conditions in the country’s healthy economic rotation,” said the documentary producer of “Iranian Zoom”. Participating in the production of a film for the beginning of research, writing and filming by the center is very good, but creating a mechanism such as the filmmaker with the capacity of the Art Credit Fund or other cultural and financial institutions and centers for lending or grants tailored to the subject is among the suggestions that can be implemented next year.

Elahi said the development of continuous interactions with assemblies and circles, including NGOs, along with the executive agencies whose cultural activities are part of their programs, can help to attract or inject capital into documentary production.

The university lecturer continued: Expecting high sales at the box office for the documentary is due to the lack of public interest and there is no possibility of returning capital through the world except for a few specific films; But this is not a reinforcement of infrastructure for those interested in the field throughout the country, and slowly can be hoped for spending a documentary like fictional cinema.

Elahi said: “Currently, improving the economic situation is the lack of bankruptcy and the avoidance of the despair of the documentaries, and at the same time providing their livelihoods at the same time as film production.” Simply, the relevant authorities in the Cinema Organization do not limit the support of the documentary film to the supply or growth of the Documentary Cinema Development Center for a few percent throughout the year, and in any way involve all relevant bases.
